Membership Team

The Membership Team is the perfect spot for "people people.

Our ultimate mission is to help elect Democrats to positions in all levels of government, so that they can use the power of governments to make people's lives better. To do that, our role is to:

  • Recruit volunteers - to help with our projects and those of other teams
  • Sponsor training to help volunteers become more effective politically
  • Network with other organizations
  • Conduct voter registration drives
  • Assist in nominating and electing officers for the Marion Democrats

The team meets once a month for 2 hours. After the meeting we have a spirited discussion of current events and politics.

We invite you to join the Membership Team or any of the others. Contact Carolyn or John Estelle at 503- 364-5228.

We will do our best to match your interests and talents to a team or task that provides you with a rewarding experience.

The Legislative Team

The Legislative Committee's job is to keep members of the Central Committee informed about legislative matters including who are our representatives and what influence they have over legislation. We will research and the information that we discover will be presented on our web blog in the form of links to various other sources, and articles which have been written and/or researched by committee members, members of the Central Committee, Legislators, and State Committee sources. The central idea is to give you a head start on research so that you can make the informed decisions necessary to the functioning of a true Democracy.

In the current cycle we are most concerned with candidates and their positions on various issues. The development of this resource will take time so to start with we will link you to a significant resource already available on the state DPO website, the list of candidates that are currently vying for each Federal & State Elected Office. http://www.oregondemocrats.org/candidates

The Legislative Comittee meets monthly on the 4th Thursday of the month. For more information or to join, contact Richard Harisay at 503-769-3339.

Program Team

The purpose of the Program Team is to plan informative and lively programs for the monthly meetings and other events sponsored by Marion County Democrats. The DemoForum is part of our mission. Programs and guest speakers have ranged from the Chalk Board Project to the Democratic candidates for Attorney General.

The Team strives to be 2 to 3 months ahead of schedule. This requires both foresight and flexibility.

The Program Team meets monthly on the first Monday at the Fresh Start Cafe and Coffee House at 11:00 AM for about an hour.

If you are unable to attend the meetings but have an idea for a program, contact the current chair, David Vancil, with basic information about a proposed speaker, including contact information.

Contact David Vancil for more information. Home Phone - 503-981-8863 or cell phone 503-407-1859.
