A DOSE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE
Submitted by rokhoperpol on November 18, 2008 - 1:52pm.
Here is what I was thinking about last February:
If money wins elections, why can't it be MY money?
So I started contributing to the candidate of my choice.
When it became apparent that Obama was going to be a
real contender, I started to send my contributions to his
campaign on a regular monthly basis. It wasn't much by
republican standards, but I had a secret multiplier: YOU.
Over 1 million of YOU were thinking the same thing. If
money is needed to win elections, it should be YOUR money.
In the democratic way it became OUR money and we grew to
three million strong. OUR small contributions aggregated to
$150,000,000 in the month of September alone, and Barack
spent it well.
We did not rely on money alone to win back our country. We
knocked on doors, made hundreds of phone calls, and held house
parties. We wrote letters, staffed offices, emptied waste baskets,
and cleaned toilets. Whatever it took to run our campaigns, we did it.
AND WE WON!!! We won the privilege of having something to guard,
and never letting our guard down again. We won the privilege of
recovering a democracy that has been savagely attacked. We won the
opportunity to repair a severly dammaged economy. We won the
opportunity to bring our troops home from Iraq, and to recover our
national reputation for strength, fairness, compassion, and respect for
law. We won it and we must now guard it with our lives. Beyond guarding
it, we must be proactive.
At this moment we must focus our great power on the senatorial campaigns
in Alaska, Minnesota, and Georgia. Even when a recount is mandated by
ATTACK ON LOCAL ELECTION PROCESS
Submitted by rokhoperpol on October 6, 2008 - 10:10pm.It is not surprising never-the-less despicable that the Statesman-Journal, a journalistic travesty, should endorse Randy Franke for County Clerk. In violation of their own principle of backing the incumbent they have made this endorsement because Franke is a Republican running for a non-partisan position against a man who has brought us more secure elections. Neither the Journal nor Franke nor Franke's backers want more secure elections.
It is not surprising because it is a part of the neocon agenda to infiltrate all election systems so that they can be corrupted to allow neocons to maintain power by unconstitutional methods (that is the only way they can “win”.) Bill Burgess has done too good a job, for them, since he took over from a Republican, and that has to stop, you betcha!
We have had more than enough of the neocon Juggernaut. They have stolen everything we have and everything we will have for the next three generations. This is why we need to keep our election systems as uncorrupted as possible, by electing Bill Burgess and keeping him as our county clerk. We also need to elect Barack Obama, Jeff Merkley, Kurt Schrader, and all Democratic State Candidates.

REORGANIZATION -- VOTE FOR RICH
Submitted by rokhoperpol on November 11, 2008 - 12:58pm.The reorganization meeting will take place next Monday (Nov. 19th). If you are an elected Precinct Committee Person (PCP), please be there to vote for our new officers and delegates.
I want to take this opportunity to ask you to vote for me for two positions: Delegate to the CD5 Convention and Delegate to the State Central Committee. The latter of these is the one in which I'm most interested, but I would also like to be an alternate to CD5, however I can't run for alternate. Of those who run for delegate only the top 5 vote getters will be delegates; any other candidates will be alternates (up to 5.)
I have actively served the MCDCC since before the 2006 election and was very actively involved in the 2008 election. I walked my precinct, located placement for large signs, and did phone blogging in my precinct (683). I am a member of the Membership Committee and Chair of the Legislative Committee which makes me a member of the Executive Committee. I also served as Delegate to the State Central Committee.
The Trouble With Measure 65 -- by Wayne Baum
Submitted by rokhoperpol on October 27, 2008 - 3:04pm.The most charitable thing that can be said about Measure 65 is that it is a case of good intentions gone awry. According to its proponents this measure is intended to give “independent” voters a voice in the primary election; increase voter turnout; and promote the selection of more “mainstream” candidates. In fact, just the opposite is likely. Louisiana, the only state with extensive experience with a similar system has been in the bottom 1/3rd of the country for voter turnout over the past decade. Likewise, white supremacist David Duke, running in a virtual one party district was twice able to advance to the Louisiana general election because votes were split over several more moderate candidates. Neighboring Washington State just completed their first “top two” primary. They have 8 legislative races going into the general election with just one party represented. Their turnout did not improve either: 42% vs. Oregon's 58%.
The current party based system denies no one the right to participate in the primary election process. We have two major and multiple minor parties representing a broad spectrum of candidates and philosophies. Voters are free to register (or re-register) in any of them. Thousands of Oregonians did just that in this year's primary when they became Democrats in order to choose between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton. Registration is a simple matter and nothing prevents those individuals from switching back to their previous designation if they so choose.
A Summary of The Economic Meltdown
Submitted by rokhoperpol on October 6, 2008 - 10:54pm.I have used a very good investment advisor for many years now and to very good effect. He and his team have never been wrong about major trends. This kind of information they give free of charge. The article that I'm giving you a link to here sums things up very well and tells you
what to expect. If you want to see it click here.
Proposed Legislation to Reduce the National Debt
Submitted by rokhoperpol on September 1, 2008 - 11:58am.National Debt Reduction Act
Establish a Statute with the goal of making it a Constitutional Amendment.
Every Tax Payer may, on their tax return, designate any portion of their refund, if they have one coming, to reduce the principle on the national debt (ND).
This payment shall not only reduce the principle on the ND but it shall also reduce the ceiling on the ND by the equivalent amount.
Citizens may continue to do this until the ND has been reduced to zero and the ceiling has been reduced to zero.
The ceiling on the ND may not be raised in anticipation of this ACT being approved and the ceiling shall retroactively be amended to the level it was at the time this bill was introduced.
The ceiling on the ND may not be increased for any reason other than fully declared war that has the legislative approval of both the United States of America and the United Nations.
Any money collected as the result of government prosecution of private contractors who received government funds, for fraud or nonperformance on government awarded contracts shall be applied exclusively under the terms of this statute (after reasonable deductions to cover the cost of prosecution.)
No law or statute may be passed which has the intent, purpose, or effect to amend any of the definitions of words or phrases used in this statute or amendment which were in effect at the time of the passage of this bill.
The Democratic Platform
Submitted by rokhoperpol on May 7, 2008 - 12:34am.The weekend of April 11th thru April 13th was my first experience with a Democratic Convention and I learned a lot. As delegates it was our job to arrive at a platform which will direct our energies until we meet again to reconsider it. We had roughly 65 categories which were to be divided into six legislative action items and six principles for a total of 780 planks of up to 50 words each. When you multiply that by an average length of 35 words the score is 27,300 words; a lot of work.
This is the code by which we focus our legislative efforts and formulate our ever changing rules for living together as a society. We could simplify this complex code as follows:
-
Thou shalt not covet. Think about it; if you don't covet, you don't steal. No matter what the object or the size of the object might be. And you probably would not need the next principle either, but let's throw it in for safety's sake.
-
Thou shalt not kill. Four words suffice here, we don't need 50.
-
Thou shalt not worship more than THIS ONE GOD. Does away with a lot of conflicting rules and gives the option of not worshiping at all.
